Murry Cod

Latin Name: Maccullochella peelii peelii
Common Name: Cod, Codfish, Green fish
Habitat:

Murray cod are remarkable by any ecologist's standards in their adaptability and the diversity of habitats they occupy.  Murray cod habitat varies greatly, from quite small clear, rocky, upland streams with riffle and pool structure on the upper western slopes of the Great Dividing Range to large, meandering, slow-flowing, often silty rivers in the alluvial lowland reaches of the Murray-Darling Basin . Murray cod prefer deep holes with cover in the form of large rocks, fallen trees, stumps, clay banks and overhanging vegetation.

Sex: Murray Cod reach sexual maturity between 4 and 6 years of age. Sexual maturity in Murray Cod is dependant on age. Therefore roughly 70% of wild river Murray Cod, with their slower growth rate, has reached sexual maturity by 50cm in length, actual sexing unknown by visiaul eye
Size:

Murray Cod are large fish with adult fish regularly reaching 80-100cm in length in all but the very smallest waterways. Murray Cod are capable of growing well over 1 metre in length and the largest on record was over 1.8 metres in length and approximately 113kg in weight.

Temperature: 24° - 30 °C (76° - 86 °F)
Water Chemistry: pH 7 - 7.5
Food: Feeder fish, pellets, Frozen Food
Notes: Murray cod feed on small fish (include own specie) therefore any smaller size fish may fit into a Murray cod's mouth making them unsuitable to put together in the same tank. Very territorial fish therefore it is very hard to mix with other fish.
